Rebuilt Conference

Alpha Ireland presents Rebuilt Conference from 10th-11th September in NUI Maynooth North Campus, Iontas Building (Use car park 5). 

Rebuilt is a story of stopping everything and changing focus.  Join speakers Fr. Michael White, Fr. Patrick Donnelly and lay associate Tom Corcoran and see how they changed their parishes around.  The result tripled their weekend mass attendance, yielded increased giving, flourishing ministries, and a vibrant, spiritual revival. You are invited to share the vision, borrow their strategies, and receive a wealth of guidance on how to rebuild your own parishes.

Catholic Distance University

The Office for Evangelisation and Ecumenism is partnering with the Catholic Distance University in America to provide an online course in Adult Faith for the Autumn.  The course is ideal for anyone involved in the life of the Parish, Parish Council members, or those involved in liturgy or sacramental programmes.

70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising

The Polish Chaplaincy in Ireland invites you to the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising in St. Audoen’s Church 14 High Street, Dublin 8. From 2nd to 4th and 9th to 10th of August, from 12 noon till 8.00pm.  There will be two exhibitions and a movie "City of Ruins". There will be also productions performed by the scouts and the Polish community art groups. Each visitor will be able to sample food prepared according to recipes of the time of Rising and listen to live music of the time.  The opening ceremony will be held on Friday at  7.00pm, in St. Audoen’s Church, by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Christy Burke followed by inaugural Lecture on the topic:'' Warsaw Uprising in comparative perspective'', from  Dr. Gabriel Doherty of UCC. Admission free.

An Evening of Prayer around the Cross with the chants of the Taizé Community in grateful memory of their founder, Br Roger Schutz, will be held on the evening before the 9th anniversary of his entering the life of Eternity.  All are welcome, especially the young and the young at heart Friday 15th August at 7.30pm in St Paul's Church, Arran Quay, Dublin 7 [beside CYC building]. Youth 2000 Summer Festival

For young people aged 16-35, an opportunity not to be missed to experience the Catholic faith and meet many new people. It will be held in Cistercian College, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary from Thursday 14​​th – Sunday ​17​​th August .  This Festival has been nicknamed the “Holy Oxygen” with over 1000 young people from all corners of Ireland attending last year.

Funding Appeal

You may be aware from newspaper reports, of six month old Baby Elizabeth Soffe, who was badly burned in an accident in Doha.  She suffered severe injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Birmingham for specialist treatment. Elizabeth has a long journey of recovery ahead. Friends of the family have set up a fundraising account to try and support some of Elizabeth’s medical expenses. Sharing the Good News - Issue 10, August 2014

This newsletter is for the benefit of parishioners to promote Church teaching and the pastoral work of bishops as well as the councils, agencies, offices and initiatives of the Bishops’ Conference.  The newsletter can be used and circulated - in whole or in part - to your parishioners for parish newsletters, websites, noticeboards and on social media. 

For your convenience Issue 10 is attached in the following formats: (i) PDF version for printing and for use as a download from websites; (ii) GIF file for use as an image on websites and social media pages; and, (iii) MS Word version so as all the parts of the newsletter are available to cut and paste into parish newsletters. Also attached is a visual for use with the Prayers for Peace in the Middle East initiative and a JPEG of an advertisement promoting diocesan priesthood.
