Religious Education Congress 2014

This year’s Religious Education Congress will be held on the 18th October in Mater Dei Institute of Education, Clonliffe Road, Dublin 3.

This is an opportunity for Religious Educators to come together to find inspiration for their work and to avail of the opportunity for personal renewal and growth.  Sponsored by Veritas & Mater Dei Institute, both parties will present workshops over the course of the event.  The focus of this years congress will be mainly concerned with the many changes that are taking place in education at both primary & post-primary level.  The theme for this year’s event is ‘Sing a New Song!’  At this event we hope to enable people to find new and attractive ways to sing the song of their faith so that others are moved to join in.  To find out more click on www.recongress.ie

The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola: Presented Peter Hannan, S.J. Beginning with an introduction to the first week of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola Wednesday, October 1st, at 8:00 p.m.

An introduction to the second week of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola Wednesday, December 3rd, at 8:00 p.m.

There will be no evening held on the Wednesday of Christmas Eve, December 24th Or New Year’s Eve December 31st.

The Spirituality of the Gospel of St. Luke:  These evenings will be held on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m.   The Group that meets during these evenings will be reflecting upon chapters of the Gospel of St. Luke and will share how it speaks to our personal experience.  Dates: 18th September (Chapter 1), October 16t h (Chapter 2), November 20th (Chapter 3), December 18th (Special evening with Fr. Michael Mullins ), January 15th (Chapter 4)  all at 7:30 p.m.  (Suggested contribution €10.00).

The Monastic Way in the Secular World: Weekend Retreat at Mount St. Joseph Abbey, Roscrea, Co. Day Courses

Responding to the Challenges to Faith Based Education:  This course will take place on September 13th at 10.00 a.m. and look at how faith based education in Ireland, in Catholic and Protestant schools, is being undermined by an increasingly prevalent secular mind-set.  The discussion will be led by contribtions from Peter Hannan S.J.,Dr. Amalee Meehan and Shange Murphy S.C. ‘Marriage - Beauty, Truth and Goodness’: This day will take place 8th November at 10.00 a.m. and is primarily for those involved with Accord in the Leinster Region.  Open to anyone who wishes to reflect upon why Marriage between man and women is so central to Christian Faith.  Tel: 056 7728902.

Divine Presence in the Poetry of Patrick Kavanagh:  Dr. Stephen Costello will give this one day course on 29th January at 7:30pm.  He will explore the meaning of the spiritual as “part of no earthly estate” upon different aspects of Patrick Kavanagh’s poetry and the insights offered by him in relation to the central important of the poet and poetry in the Christian spiritual life.  (Suggested contribution €10) Tel: 056 7728902.

A Tritium of prayers in honour of St. Pio will take place at all Masses in St. John the Evangelist Church, Ballinteer on 20th, 21st and 22nd September for the Feast Day (23rd September), we  will also have a Special Mass at 7.30 p.m. on the actual feast day.

New Leadership Training Program for Young Adults

 

 The Office for Evangelisation and Ecumenism have been working with the Church of Ireland in Dublin to develop a new  training program for young adults who wish to train and learn how to be active and faith leaders with young people.

The course will be launched in October and begins in November.

 

It will be ideal for young adults who wish to assume an active and intentional role in their local parish. Places will be limited.  Course prospectus can be emailed to anyone interested.

A number of schools expressed support for a pilgrimage to Taize in the school year 2014/15. If you would like to consider the possibility of bringing a school group to Taize, please email us giving us your details and schools. Rosary Sunday

To celebrate Rosary Sunday on 5th October, The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Harold's Cross will pray the full Rosary during Eucharistic Adoration for the intention of the Family and the Synod on the Family. One of the four sets of Mysteries will commence at each half-hour, starting at 3.00pm, and concluding with Benediction at 5.00pm.

Thisnew course designed to help you to discover more energising and empowering ways to live out your faith in the reality of today’s world: through relationships, family, home, parish, work and the events of daily life.  It aims to help you to be more active, open, faithful, confident, trusting and willing to work for change.  The course takes place in two locations: Orlagh Retreat Centre and The Margaret Aylward Centre for Faith and Dialogue, Glasnevin starting from 19th October – 1st March 2015. This course, to be experienced as a journey of four ‘Movements’ invites you to explore the call you received in Baptism.   This new course has beendesigned, and will be delivered, through a partnership agreement between the Archdiocesese of Dublin and Liverpool. FaithFest

The FaithFest team is planning their fifth Faith Fest for teenagers on Friday 3rd October - Dynamic programmes, which support their faith and create opportunities for them to meet other young people.

This time we will be running drama, music, and dance, walking meditation workshops.

Those who play a musical instrument are asked to bring them along on Friday 3rd of October from 6.00-9.30pm.

We are inviting all parishes to consider sending young people to FaithFest.
